She was just a young girl when the angel Gabriel appeared to her, greeting her by saying, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" (Luke 1:28)
Highly favored. Blessed among women. These phrases show that Mary had great faith.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrew 11:6
After hearing that she would bear the Son of God she responded with "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38)
Maidservant of the Lord. Let it be done to me.....speaks of obedience, faith and humble service.
In Luke 1:46-55 Mary sings her praise to God.
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
53
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
54
He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”
Because of her faith she was chosen. Because of her faith she obeyed. Because of her faith she sang praises to her Heavenly Father.
Lord, equip me with a faith like Mary's. May I bow on my knees and offer myself to be your servant for you alone are holy. My spirit can rejoice for I've seen your mercy. My soul is magnified for I've seen your goodness.
Thank you, God, for this day. Thank you for your strength, your mercy and your holiness.
