Five Minute Friday ~ Grasp

It is that day of the week. The day of the week in which I not only dance and sing my Friday Song, but also the day of the week in which I join others in a fun writing exercise inspired by Lisa-Jo. A day when I am challenged to think about one word and write from my heart for a mere five minutes. Today's word is grasp. Here we go........

My children, oh, how I wish I could hold you tight in my grasp for eternity.

How I wish I could shelter you from any storm, safe in your mama's arms.....
protecting you from evils
protectimg you from disappointments
protecting you from hurts

protecting you from the really hard days.

Yet, if I don't loosen this grasp you will not grow,
your wings will not learn how to fly.

So I hide my heart's desire to hold on, I loosen my grasp and I lift my prayers up to my Heavenly Father.

A Father who can protect much better than I.

 Ah, Lord God!
Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth
by your great power and outstretched arm.
There is nothing too hard for you.
Jeremiah 32:17

A Father that is mighty to save.
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
Zep. 3:17

A Father who loves abundantly.
I will recount the steadfast love of the LORD,
 the praises of the LORD,
according to all that the LORD has granted us,
and the great goodness to the house of Israel
that he has granted them according to his compassion,
according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
Isaiah 63:7

I cheated, but just a little. The Bible verses were added after my five minutes had expired. The rest, the words which I can claim as my own, were written during my allotted time. :)

Why don't you come a long to join the Five Minute Friday party?

  1. The addition of the Bible verses was extra time well spent! I can identify with that feeling of wanting to hold on to our precious babes. Glad you linked up with Five Minute Friday!

  2. Adding scripture is always worthwhile - even if it takes you more than five minutes. I know they were wonderful for me to read. :) Thanks for cheating.

  3. So grateful to read your words through FMF this morning. You spoke my mama's heart...the desire to cling and recognizing only by releasing my grip can I truly allow all the blessings of God's touch upon them. And that picture of you and your children -- such a beautiful image of the good, loving grasp. :)

  4. My guess is, you thought of the Bible verse while writing and just needed the extra time to make sure you quoted them right ;)

beautiful write, friend...I'm with you on this. wanting to hold on tight, all the while realizing His grip is stronger than my own. To think, He loves my child more than I ever could...that overwhelms me.

love and hugs to you, friend!

  6. The photo is a few years old (my boy is now taller than me!) but as soon as I saw our prompt word I thought of this picture. I continue to grab both of them tight whenever I get the chance....while still letting go. :)

Isn't it amazing? God's love for us is even GREATER than a mother's love for her child ~ this blows me away and assured me that my children are in good hands.

  7. This is so true: "Yet, if I don't loosen this grasp you will not grow,
your wings will not learn how to fly." Although my little man is only 9, I'm realizing I must the letting go starts even now.
    Glad to connect:))

  8. Beautiful! It's so true, we mamas desire to hold on to them, but it's in the letting go that WE realize just how much their heavenly Father loves them...even more than we do!
    Thanks for stopping by.
    Blessings!

Stay-cation: Fun Things to Do Around Rochester, MN

Family vacations are expensive. Gas, lodging, meals...oh, and then there is the admission cost to all the cool things that you want to see. Vacations cost more than a small fortune. Now figure in the loss of income (some of us don't get paid vacations) and you've "broke the bank". Enter the stay-cation. Gas costs are reduced. Lodging is covered. Meals, although still necessary, can be made at home and packed in a cooler. This summer, instead of taking a week off, I am taking a couple long weekends. One weekend we will be traveling "Up North" to visit my husband's college buddy. Otherwise we're keeping our exploring near to home. Another benefit to a stay-cation is a little extra time for home projects. I can keep up with the laundry, instead of having a week's worth of laundry to do when I return home. Isn't that the worst part of vacation - the accumulation of dirty clothes you have to wash after being away from home all week? Gardening ca

Thy Will be Done

Years ago....June 2012 to be exact..... while at the hospital bedside of my daughter , I cried "Heal her!" which was followed with as much conviction, "Thy will by done". And I meant it. The Holy Spirit equipped me to pray for God's will and not my own. The Holy Spirit equipped me to pray that whatever the outcome, he alone would be glorified. photo credit: Tessa Rampersad Since that time, "thy will be done" isn't as easy to pray when going about my normal, everyday life. How was it that I was able to so easily submit the future to his hands when I was facing my hardest days. Not by my power but by His. The past couple of weeks, as I prepared emotionally for the celebration of my youngest's 18th birthday, I've been revisiting this need to release my child into the hands of God. I've spent too many moments wondering if I've done my job in preparing my son for adulthood. I've spent too much time being anxious for his future

stripped bare

It's Friday which means it's time to dance and sing (the daycare kids and I have a song and dance to celebrate this glorious day). Friday is also the day in which Lisa-Jo hosts Five Minute Fridays and I humbly join the party of words strung together in five short minutes by a group of fantastic writers. The rules are simple. Lisa-Jo provides the word, write for five minutes flat, no backtracking/editing/over thinking, share your link at Lisa-Jo's, and share the love by reading what others have written. It's great fun and so inspiring. Won't you join us? I promise, you will be blessed! Today's word ~ BARE Lord, I want to be stripped bare.            Strip me of myself so there is more room for you. Strip me of my foolishness, my stubbornness, my selfishness.    Do nothing from  selfish ambition or  conceit, but in  humility count others more significant than yourselves  Phil. 2:3 And to man He said, "Behold, the fear of the Lord,
