Sea Salt Spray

I was thrilled a couple of weeks ago when my daughter asked if we could make a hair product. She usually rolls her eyes at my speeches on the harmful chemicals in which she is applying to her body and is hesitant in trying any of my homemade "beauty" products. I've often thought of sneaking my homemade shampoo into her bottles of shampoo just to see if she'd notice. So I almost fell over when she asked for my help to find and make a recipe for sea spray "stuff" (hair products, other than shampoo, are foreign to me these days). Sea Salt spray gives the "fresh from the beach look". Breanna says that it controls her curly hair from getting too frizzy. The spray was easy to make ~ water, sea salt and little bit of oil.

Old spray bottle to store Sea Salt Spray, Sea Salt, Moroccan Hair Oil, mixture cooling in bowl of ice
SEA SALT SPRAY
Boil 1 cup of water, remove from heat
Add 1 T. Sea Salt, stir until dissolved
Add a few drops essential oil of your choice (Breanna had Moroccan Hair oil that she wanted to use)
Cool before pouring into a spray bottle

Breanna loves her homemade Sea Salt Spray and is costs fractions of what she'd pay in the store. Maybe she is learning something from her momma.

  2. I have a long, curly, frizzy hair and trust me, no product helps. But will try this. Thanks.

stripped bare

It's Friday which means it's time to dance and sing (the daycare kids and I have a song and dance to celebrate this glorious day). Friday is also the day in which Lisa-Jo hosts Five Minute Fridays and I humbly join the party of words strung together in five short minutes by a group of fantastic writers. The rules are simple. Lisa-Jo provides the word, write for five minutes flat, no backtracking/editing/over thinking, share your link at Lisa-Jo's, and share the love by reading what others have written. It's great fun and so inspiring. Won't you join us? I promise, you will be blessed! Today's word ~ BARE Lord, I want to be stripped bare.            Strip me of myself so there is more room for you. Strip me of my foolishness, my stubbornness, my selfishness.    Do nothing from  selfish ambition or  conceit, but in  humility count others more significant than yourselves  Phil. 2:3 And to man He s...

Stay-cation: Fun Things to Do Around Rochester, MN

Family vacations are expensive. Gas, lodging, meals...oh, and then there is the admission cost to all the cool things that you want to see. Vacations cost more than a small fortune. Now figure in the loss of income (some of us don't get paid vacations) and you've "broke the bank". Enter the stay-cation. Gas costs are reduced. Lodging is covered. Meals, although still necessary, can be made at home and packed in a cooler. This summer, instead of taking a week off, I am taking a couple long weekends. One weekend we will be traveling "Up North" to visit my husband's college buddy. Otherwise we're keeping our exploring near to home. Another benefit to a stay-cation is a little extra time for home projects. I can keep up with the laundry, instead of having a week's worth of laundry to do when I return home. Isn't that the worst part of vacation - the accumulation of dirty clothes you have to wash after being away from home all week? Gardening ca...

My "Word" for 2012

A friend posted on Facebook yesterday, "What's your word for 2012?" I love this. What one word would signify what I want to accomplish or see in the upcoming year? Oh, so many words came flooding to my mind. Yet this morning as I think of the goals that I started to create for myself during the weeks leading up to my  mid-life crisis , err, I mean birthday...the one word that summarizes it all is LESS. Less body fat, less exhaustion, less stress, less debt, less clutter, less wasted time which all leads to more. I know, less is kind of a boring word. It's not happiness or peace or any other "pretty" word. My word could be MORE or ABUNDANT (now that's a good word!) but then my focus would be on the end product. I want my focus to be on the journey. Less is the means to more. What's your word for 2012?
